"false religion"
by A Paduan inre: this tract business.
is it just me, or do other people hear this phrase as another 'jwism' (ie.
a stupid and confusive use of english language).

Like 'unconditional love'
If people form a religion, or observe religious practice, or turn up on Sunday, or even once a decade, etc., it's religious - while the beliefs of a religion may silly or unfounded, if some level practice is observed, if only in thought, then it's a religion.
A 'false religion' sounds like 'non-existent existence'

they caught me off guard...
by elliej inokay, i just had a very nice witness lady at my door giving me my own personal copy of a very important message.
i had a whole "presentation" memorized to get her to think, but i couldn't do it.
she seemed really nice and kind of nervous and i instantly felt sorry for her and took the dang thing.

Make it short - less attention needed - less time to 'get away' from it
Try something like:
"What is it that you think you're doing ? - jehovah isn't even God's name - in Hebrew it's the mischief."

Active JWs, hows KN37 going?
by StillGroggy inhey everybody, i had an interesting time pushing a tract that i don't believe in this weekend.
i had to develop my own method of placing it without having to talk about it, since i fear if i was confronted by someone asking "do you people think you're the only true religion", i might break down and tell the person at the door "no, i don't".
the witness at the door with me would scream in terror, and i would be insta-dfed.

Hi A Paduan,
"Stupid", "mean" and "stubborn" are not traits that exclusively identifies one as a cult member. Don't you think so?
I didn't write that, and I didn't wite stubborn - I wrote "stupid mean and wishful ideologies", which I believe are traits of a cult
In referring to scholarship, I'm not saying that they necessarily got everything right. What I mean to point to is the amount of effort that's been put into giving their doctrines some appearance of validity.
In referring to scholarship I'm implying basic language appropriation, for starters.
I know that some mainstream Christians, in calling JWs a "cult" are all too happy to dismiss that possibility that JWs are serious about dogma until they actually encounter a well-trained JW.
Seriousness is a requirement - when the error of a way is presented, a fool will increase the effort - zealousy is a part of 'cult'
How many mainstream Christians (who were never JWs) can successfully debunk JW teachings on the cross? blood transfusions? birthdays?
Vast numbers - usually unnoticed as they say "no thanks" at the door

Do they have the right to stick something through your door ?
by A Paduan indo they have the right to stick something through your door ?.
came home to find some non-prophet litter-at-ya inside the house, shoved through a wee gap in the door.. it's like they just entered uninvited as they pleased for themselves - i wonder if i have grounds for legal complaint for such rudeness and contempt of other people's privacy.. maybe we could shove propaganda through the door down at their hall .

The label "cult" is also misleading in the sense that some outsiders tend to assume that JWs, being a cult instead of a fringe Christian denomination, know NOTHING about the Bible. That they only do these weird things because they chant their own silly mantras or some nonsense. That is a dangerous under-estimation of the Dubs.
Some of their doctrines may be unique, but their worldview is not that far off from conservative Christian groups. Also, a certain amount of scholarship is required to debunk some of their doctrines. And that may come as a surprise to those who've never debated agst JWs before.
I still think they are a cult of stupid mean and wishful ideologies, with a level of scholarship I can't even make conversation with
But hey, that's just my opinion
